About the author: Chris Ellis has been a model railway enthusiast since his school days over 50 years ago, and like many others at the time he started with a Hornby tinplate clockwork 0 gauge trainset, He has been a magazine writer since the early 1960s, starting out as editor of Airfix magazine. In 1980 he was the founding editor of Model Trains; he still edits it today, as the renamed Model Trains International. He has also written many books including Practical Model Railways, Starting in Model Railways and most recently The Hornby book of Model Railways as well as other books and articles on military and aviation subjects.
